We can see God’s presence in ordinary every day events of our lives, our experiences, our relationships, the circumstances in which we find ourselves, but we are not always aware of this presence. Sacraments seek to remedy that gap in our awareness.
The Sacraments are special public and communal rituals that the Catholic community celebrates. The Catholic Church believes and teaches that the seven Sacraments were instituted by Jesus and given to us as a sign of the presence and power of God in our lives.
The Sacraments are divided into three groups, the Sacraments of Initiation, Healing and Ministry. The Sacraments of Initiation celebrate new life and being born into God’s community in Baptism, Christ’s presence among us when celebrating the Eucharist and growth in God’s spirit when we are confirmed. The Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick provide us with physical and spiritual healing and the Sacraments of Marriage and Holy Orders help us to commit to the well being of others through love and the guidance of God.
Whilst this website will provide information about the Sacrament of Reconciliation, all the Sacraments are linked to one another as parts and elements.
